INDIANAPOLIS - Seven members of the University of Louisville track and field teams will head west this weekend to compete at the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field in Palo Alto, Calif.
The event is set to feature nearly 3,300 student-athletes and more than 100 collegiate teams. Louisville begins action at 2 p.m., and with the three-hour time difference, will not finish competing until after midnight.
Senior Luke Lovelace opens the day with the men's 5,000m at 2 p.m., and the Cardinals' next participant at the meet, Michelle Kinsella, will take part in the high jump at 6:30 p.m. Kinsella is competing in her first high jump competition since the indoor season, when she won the BIG EAST title and then earned All-America honors in the event.
Closing out the day are Mattias Wolter and Ernest Kibet. Wolter is scheduled to run in the 3,000m steeplechase, an event in which he finished runner-up at the BIG EAST Championships last season, while Kibet will race in the 10,000m.
The Cardinals also are sending a pair of distance athletes to the San Francisco State Distance Carnival in San Francisco, Calif. Both Tyler Byrne and Japhet Kipkoech are scheduled to run in the 10,000m race at 11:40 a.m. ET.
