LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore Calvin Arsenault re-broke his school record in the 60m hurdles on Saturday, and the University of Louisville track and field teams finished with seven top-five finishes at the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier in Blacksburg, Va.
A Kitchener, Ontario, native, Arsenault clocked a personal-best 7.88 in the 60m hurdles trials at the beginning of the day. The mark broke the school record by two hundredths of a second, Arsenault's previous best. The time likely will rank in the top 40. Arsenault advanced to the semifinals, where he placed fifth, and he finished with a fourth-place showing in the finals.
Margret Harris, Louisville's only other competitor on the track, advanced through the 60m trials and semifinals and placed sixth in the finals.
Louisville also had a pair of throwers in Khadija Abdullah and Amashi Kendall participating at the event. Abdullah won the shot put title, and her season-best 17.06m/55-11.75 ranked as the ninth-best mark entering Saturday. Kendall finished runner-up in the weight throw. Her season best of 20.21m/66-3.75 is listed at No. 24 nationally.
The list of qualifiers for the NCAA Division I Championships will be revealed on Sunday, March 3, with starting lists announced on Wednesday, March 6. The national championships, which take place from March 8-9, will be held in Fayetteville, Ark.
