The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 6-1 victory to Winthrop. The Cards lost the doubles point and then all but one singles match Saturday in Winston-Salem.

"We got outplayed. Winthrop earned the win. We have to understand because of the success we have had early in this season, we have a target on our backs now. Teams get excited to play us now and we have to learn how to adjust to that." said U of L head coach Mark Beckham.

In doubles, the Cardinals' No. 2 pair of Stefanie Villajuan and Mandy Brown fell 8-6 Giovanna Portioli and Alice Garcia. The No. 3 pair of Eagles, Caitlin Cridland and Ekin Gunaysu beat Manuela Velasquez and Rebecca Bodine 8-5. No. 1 pair of Rebecca Shine and Julia Fellerhoff beat Yasmine Alkema and Andressa Garcia 8-5 but it was not enough.

In singles play, #107 Alkema beat Julia Fellerhoff 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (3) in the No. 1 spot. In No. 2 singles, Rebecca Shine beat Andressa Garcia 6-0, 7-6 0-6. At No. 3, Manuela Velasquez fell to Alice Garcia 7-5, 6-3. In No. 4 singles Giovanna Portioli beat U of L's Mandy Brown 6-2, 6-1. Caitlin Cridland defeated Cardinal Becky Bodine 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 5 position and Ekin Gunaysu beat U of L senior Stefanie Villajuan 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
