Cardinal Athletics held its third annual Student-Athlete Talent Show last week hosted by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The annual event is quickly becoming a favorite among the student-athletes to showcase their hidden talents, some more talented than others, and come together for a night of laughs while supporting a charity.
Twelve teams participated in the event this year: Volleyball, Rowing, Softball, Men's Golf, Women's Golf, Men's Tennis, Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer, Women's Track and Field, Field Hockey, and Lacrosse. Performances ranged from Volleyball's creative glow in the dark dance routine to Softball's hilarious skit "A Day in the Life of a Student-Athlete." A Louisville Athletics "celebrity" panel of judges rated each performance based on talent, creativity, and level of preparation.
Women's Soccer claimed first place with their "So You Think You Can Dance" routine while Volleyball finished only two points behind for second place. Over 400 people attended the event, which is open to UofL students, faculty and staff. A donation of $3 is collected for admission with 100% of it going to a charity each year.
This year the SAAC voted to adopt Kosair Children's Hospital as their "Charity of Choice" for the academic year so all the funds from the talent show will be donated to Kosair. Between the talent show and a Jar Wars fundraising competition in the fall, the SAAC, on behalf of all the Cardinal Student-Athletes will be donating $1600 to Kosair Children's Hospital this year.
Louisville Athletics will also participate in the University of Louisville Dance Marathon to benefit Kosair Children's Hospital. To find out more about this event, please visit www.uldm.org.
