No. 3/4 Louisville will host Ohio University in the KFC Yum! Center on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7:00 p.m. The Cardinals are coming off a thrilling 97-92 overtime win at No. 11/13 Oklahoma on Sunday for the Preseason WNIT Championship title.
Tia Gibbs scored a career-high 23 points and had nine rebounds to lead Louisville over Oklahoma. Shoni Schimmel scored 16 points while Asia Taylor had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Hammond, the tournament MVP, posted 13 points and seven rebounds. Taylor was also named to the all-tournament team.
Taylor leads six Cardinals averaging double figures with 14.3 points per game. Hammond ranks second on the team with 13.8 points along with a team leading 8.5 rebounds per game. Antonita Slaughter ranks third on the team in scoring with 12.8 points per game. Gibbs, Shoni and Jude Schimmel round out double figure scorers for the Cardinals. Gibbs is averaging 11.3 points per game while Shoni is averaging 11.0 points per game and Jude is averaging 10.3 points per game.
Ohio rallied to force overtime and defeat Morehead State University 64-56, last Saturday at Johnson Arena. Ohio outscored Morehead State, 16-8, in the extra period. Ohio defeated the Eagles in overtime for the second straight year. Sophomore forward Lexie Baldwin led the way in Ohio's win at Morehead State with a career-high 19 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists and two blocks. She went a career-best 8-for-10 from the free throw line and finished in double figures for the second straight game. Baldwin compiled 10 points and eight rebounds in Ohio's 94-88 season-opening win against Xavier on Nov. 10 at the Convo.
Kiyanna Black leads the Bobcats in scoring with 21.5 points per game. Baldwin ranks second on the team in scoring with 14.5 points per game while pulling down 7.0 rebounds per game. Mariah Byard rounds out the top scorers with 14.0 points per game. Destini Cooper leads the Bobcats on the boards with 9.5 rebounds per game.
Louisville leads the series 1-0 against Ohio. The Cardinals defeated Ohio 84-47 in Athens on Nov. 14, 2010.
The game will be carried live on the Cards Radio with Matt Andrews and Adrienne Johnson, carried locally on WKRD 790 AM. The game will also be streamed live on CARDS TV.
