Louisville, Ky. - Every week this summer UofLSports.com will catch up with a member of the women's basketball team to see how they are preparing for the upcoming season. This week senior forward Monique fills us in on what she has been doing since the season ended.
You are about to start your senior year, what has been the best thing about playing for Louisville? The best thing about playing at Louisville is playing in front of my family and friends every home game. We also have the best fans in the nation.
At what age did you start playing basketball, and who taught you to play? I started to play basketball when I was five years old. My father taught me how to play.
What have you been doing this summer? This summer I have been rehabbing my knee and working out. I have also been working on my basketball skills.
What do you hope to improve for next season? I would most like to improve my jump shot. And there is always room for me to improve my defense.
What has the team been doing since the end of the season to get ready for the 2012-13 season? The team has done a great job at getting in the gym everyday and working hard. Everyone is also working on their individual games in order to get better for next season. This team has a great work ethic.
What is your best basketball memory? My best basketball memory is my freshman year here at Louisville, and going all the way to the national championship game. Nothing can replace that feeling.
What do you hope to accomplish on the court before you leave Louisville? I would love to accomplish winning a national championship.
Who is the biggest influence in your life and why? My grandmother is the biggest influence in my life. She raised me and I couldn't ask for a better role model. I love her so much.
What is your dream job after you leave Louisville? I would love to be able to continue to play basketball at the next level.
What will be the team's strength this upcoming season? I think our experience and depth will be our biggest strength this season. I cannot wait to get back on the floor and play with this team.
