LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Just two days after a conference milestone, the University of Louisville women's track and field team jumped to a program-best No. 12 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's National Team Computer Rankings, the New Orleans-based organization announced Tuesday.
On May 6, the Cardinal women secured their fifth-straight BIG EAST outdoor title at the USF Track and Field Stadium in Tampa, Fla. The squad became the first in conference history to achieve the feat in BIG EAST women's outdoor history. In total, the Cardinals claimed 13 top-five finishes, including Amashi Kendall (hammer throw), Khadija Abdullah (discus) and Chinwe Okoro (shot put) sweeping the women's throwing events and Michelle Theophille capturing the women's high jump title.
At the conclusion of the meet, head coach Ron Mann and staff was named the BIG EAST Women's Outdoor Coaching Staff of the Year for the fourth time in program history. Kendall also earned an accolade, picking up BIG EAST Female Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet.
The Cardinals, who ranked as high as No. 16 earlier this year (April 24), are the lone top-25 team in the BIG EAST.
Louisville returns to action this week at its last-chance meet, the Cardinal Twilight, on Friday, May 11. Events at the throws field begin at 10 a.m., while action inside Cardinal Park Track and Soccer Stadium is set for 11 a.m. Running events are scheduled for 5 p.m.
