
Women's Tennis Competes at WMU Super Challenge

The University of Louisville women's tennis team completed the second day of competition at the Western Michigan University Super Challenge.
Julia Fellerhoff beat opponents from Penn State (6-3, 6-2) and DePaul (3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (7)). She will play #50 Leslie Hureau of Indiana in the No. 1 singles flight at the Western Michigan Super Challenge.
Rebecca Shine beat A. Hernandez of Marquette (4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (4)) before falling to Notre Dame's Gleason 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (9). She will play for third place in the No. 2 s)ingles draw against WMU's Hawkins.
Manuela Velasquez beat PSU's Sandor 6-7 (4), 6-4, 1-0 (5) before falling to Indiana's Klyczek 6-7, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (9). She will play for third place in the No. 3 singles flight against Sujashvili of WMU.
In No. 4 singles flight, Mandy Brown fell to Whiteaway of PSU 7-6 (7), 7-6 (5) but beat WMU's Pastunink 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (8) to advance to the finals of the consolation bracket where she will face BGSU's Eccleston.
Stefanie Villajuan fell to PSU's Zuhse 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the No. 5 singles draw. She rebounded to beat Langhorst of Iowa State 6-2, 6-1. She will take on Notre Dame's White for the consolation championship.
Alex Tachovsky fell in the first round to IU's Chupa and then fell to WMU's Remynse 6-0, 6-2. She will play Andersen of Iowa State in the third place consolation bracket of No. 6 singles.
In No. 8 singles, Valentina Schneider fell to Indiana's Rubenstein 6-1, 6-3 and then was beaten by WMU's Aleck 6-2, 6-0. She will play for the third place consolation against PSU's Rivers.
In No. 1 doubles, Manuela Velasquez and Julia Fellerhoff paired to beat Utting and Hawkins of WMU (8-0) and then beat Kellner and McGaffigan of Notre Dame (DNP). The pair then fell in the finals to DePaul's Cutura and Kling 8-6.
Mandy Brown and Stefanie Villajuan fell to Gleason and White of Notre Dame 9-7 but then rebounded to beat Eritrea and Fisher of DePaul (8-3) and Eccleston and Grubb of BGSU 9-7 to win the consolation bracket.
Becca Shine and Alex Tachovsky beat Brozovich and Hill of BGSU (8-6) and then Langhorst and Waites of Iowa State 8-6. The team then beat Jayawickrema and Rubenstein of Iowa State 8-5 for the No. 4 doubles crown. Nine-team field (WMU, Bowling Green, Indiana, Penn State, Louisville, Marquette, DePaul, Iowa State, Notre Dame) Nine draws of eight players in singles; six doubles One round of doubles and one round of singles on both Friday and Saturday, and one round of singles on Sunday. Play is slated to start on Friday with doubles at 10 a.m. and Singles at 1:30 p.m. Saturday has doubles at 9 a.m. and singles at noon. Sunday has singles starting at 9 a.m.
