
Women's Tennis Competes in Qualifying Rounds of the ITA

University of Louisville women's tennis players Stefanie Villajuan advanced in the first two qualifying rounds of the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regionals this weekend. The tournament will be played from Thursday, Oct. 18 through Monday, Oct. 22 on the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Ind. on the campus of Purdue. Valentina Schneider and Alex Tachovsky survived their first two opponents in the doubles bracket.
Stefanie Villajuan defeated Bethany Moore of Ball State 6-3, 6-2 before beating Nikole Novikova of Southeast Missouri 6-0, 6-3. Valentina Schneider fell 6-3, 6-1 to EKU's Lyn Lee Choo 6-3, 6-1. Tachovsky lost to Melissa Gerritsen of EKU 6-2, 6-3.
However, Schneider and Tachovsky paired to defeat Chattanooga's Alexa Flynn and Jovana Pecovski 8-5 and EKU's Saioa Oscoz and Carmen Rodriguez 8-2.
The tournament will be the only home tournament this fall for the Boilermakers. Manuela Velasquez, Rebecca Shine, Julia Fellerhoff and Mandy Brown already qualified for the tournament .The tournament has 88 individuals that will compete in singles and doubles from 18 schools across the Ohio Valley Region. Ball State, Butler, and IUPUI will make the trip to West Lafayette from across the Hoosier State. Other schools including Cincinnati, Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee, and Xavier will make the trip from out of state.
