
Field Hockey Falls 3-1 to Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The University of Louisville field hockey team fell 3-1 to host Rutgers in a BIG EAST Conference matchup Friday afternoon.
The Scarlet Knights (8-7, 2-2 BIG EAST) jumped to a 1-0 lead at the 6:27 mark when Danielle Freshnock sent a shot past Louisville's Erin Conrad. Sophie Wright put Rutgers up 2-0 when she connected on a rebound from Alyssa Bull's shot which hit the post with just under six minutes left in the first half.
Rutgers took the 2-0 lead into halftime despite Louisville holding a 6-3 advantage in corners and the teams tied with five shots each.
Freshnock's second goal of the game increased Rutgers' lead to 3-0 just 1:27 into the second half.
Louisville sophomore Alyssa Voelmle put the Cardinals on the scoreboard with her fifth goal of the season at the 51:28 mark.
The Cards outshot the Scarlet Knights 5-3 in the second half and 10-8 in the game. Louisville also held a 3-1 edge in second half corners and a 9-4 advantage in the game. Conrad collected two saves for Louisville while Rutgers' Sarah Stuby registered eight saves in the game.
U of L (8-7, 1-3) will travel to No. 22 Wake Forest Sunday at 12 p.m.
