Whistler, Canada - Three words: white water rafting. Talk about an adventure! On Monday afternoon we headed out to Green River for a rafting tour. After we got our wet suits and booties on, we hopped on a bus and headed to the river. Our tour guides informed us that we would be rafting on level two and three rapids. Being that most of us had never gone white water rafting before, we had no idea what to expect. All we knew is we were NOT trying to fall out of the boat, especially since the water was only 45 degrees.
But with a little apprehension and a lot of excitement, we split into groups and hopped in the boats. The ride started off nice and smooth as our tour guides taught us how to row at the same time. It definitely taught us the importance of teamwork- in order to succeed, we have to work together. White water rafting turned out to be a remarkable experience, despite our tour guides making us jump in freezing cold water, and Sheronne getting attacked by a huge spider.
Yesterday, we went on a Ziptrek Eco Tour. We ziplined back and forth between the treetops on Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains. Not only did we get a crazy adrenaline rush from sliding down 1,100 feet, we also viewed some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Below the tree top bridges was Fitzsimmons Creek, separating the two mountains. Being high up in the trees with a stunning view was so peaceful.
On the ziplines we found out just how adventurous we were. On the third of five ziplines, Shawnta' flipped upside down on the rope. It was awesome, because we never saw it coming. Some of us were afraid of being up so high, but we made sure to encourage and push each other. All of us completed the tour, and all of us loved it.
When we got back to the hotel, we met with our trainer for a workout. We did 10 sprints on the treadmill. Not a day goes by where we're not mentally and physically preparing for this upcoming season. We showered and relaxed for a bit until we went out for a team dinner. We went to Earl's, a restaurant our strength coach, Teena, booked for us. All we can say is thanks Coach! The food was delicious!
Now of course, you all know we're gifted basketball players. But what you might not know is that we're also one of the best entertainment groups around. We sing, dance, the whole nine! After finding a karaoke lounge last night, it was only right that we shared our other talents with the world - well, Whistler at least. A bunch of us sang Irreplaceable by Beyoncé and No Scrubs by TLC. The crowd loved us! Whenever we're all together, we always have so much fun. Not many teams can hang out and get along as well as we do. We're definitely one special group!
Later today, we're finally heading to Vancouver. While this trip has been loads of fun, our ultimate goal is to return with three preseason wins under our belt. We scrimmaged and ran game time situations during practice, but there's no real experience like playing actual games. We are unfamiliar with the teams we are playing so learning how to adjust to our opponents will be a key skill we learn. We can't wait to hit the court again! Thanks for everything Whistler, but we're ready to get down to business. Look for a new blog on Friday for a recap of the game. Until next time, Cards fans!
