
Track and Field Teams Complete NCAA East Preliminary Rounds

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The University of Louisville track and field teams completed the final day of action on Saturday evening at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds at Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington, Ind., by adding another entry and bettering its total to six athletes in eight events who will compete at the NCAA finals.
Chinwe Okoro, after punching her ticket to the NCAA finals in the shot put, registered an 11th-place finish in the women's discus throw to fill her second entry in Des Moines, Iowa. Okoro charted a toss of 51.06m/167-6 in the event.
On the men's side, Weston Banks narrowly missed qualifying in the discus. The senior reached the finals of the preliminaries, but placed outside of the top 12, with his best throw reaching 54.02m/177-3.
Through all three days of competition, Rachel Gehret (high jump), D'Ana McCarty (hammer throw and shot put), Khadija Abdullah (shot put), Okoro (shot put and discus), Matt Hughes (3,000m steeplechase), Michael Eaton (10,000m) have advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship finals in Des Moines, Iowa, from June 8-11. Competition will be held at Drake Stadium on the campus of Drake University.
