The Ladybirds beat out dance powerhouse squads from BYU, Iowa State, Penn State and Kansas State among others to take the crown Friday evening in Daytona Beach, Fla., at the single largest collegiate cheer and dance event in the world - the NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship. The Ladybirds were named Grand National Champions of all divisions.
More than 240 teams from across the country gathered to compete for the honor of earning an NCA or NDA title. Over 5,000 student athletes and 10-12,000 supporters and spectators convene each year for the competition of technical skills, showmanship, game day abilities, and outstanding teamwork. Preliminary competition is held in the Ocean Center and the Peabody Auditorium. Team Finals were held Friday on the famous Band Shell.
Ten Dance Divisions and 16 Cheer Divisions separate teams by designation of All-Girl or Coed, skill level, style of dance, and university enrollment (Division 1, 1A, II, III), Junior College and NAIA (Large, Small, and Coed).
