
Track and Field Teams Head to Virginia Tech Final Qualifier

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - With the hopes of bettering their season-best marks for an opportunity to compete at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, members of the University of Louisville men's and women's track and field teams will compete at the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier on Saturday, March 5, in Blacksburg, Va., at Rector Field House.
Field events will begin at 10 a.m., and the track events will start tentatively an hour later. Live results will be available on FlashResults.com.
Michelle Theophille and Megan Schubert will be the first Cardinals in action, as each will take to the high jump competition at 10 a.m. Currently, Schubert is tied for 38th nationally in the event, with a season-best mark of 1.76m/5-9.25. A couple of hours later, Charachesicia Lockhart and Margret Harris will take part in the long jump competition; Lockhart is tied for 22nd nationally in the event.
Other ranked Cardinal women competing consist of Saravia Richardson (tied for 24th in the 60m), Khadija Abdullah (already qualified in shot put), D'Ana McCarty (No. 4 in the weight throw; No. 18 in the shot put), Chinwe Okoro (No. 21 in the shot put) and Amashi Kendall (No. 25 in the weight throw).
On the men's side, Michael Edwards and Neil Angermeier will compete in the high jump at 3 p.m. Edwards is tied for 15th nationally, while Angermeier checks in tied at No. 18. Ranked Cardinal men competing this weekend are Wesley Smith (12th in the long jump), Seon Powell (tied for No. 33 in the long jump) and Weston Banks (No. 34 in the shot put).
Louisville last competed at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships on Feb. 19-20. The women's team earned its first indoor title in program history, defeating Connecticut, 110-108.5, while the men grabbed fourth place.
Three Cardinals earned titles on the first day of competition - McCarty won her third weight throw title, and Lockhart captured the women's long jump title, while Smith grabbed the men's title in the event. On the second day, Abdullah won the shot put title, and Angermeier won the high jump title.
