Cincinnati, Ohio - Hey Cards fans! It's been a while since I last blogged, but I wanted to catch you up on what we Lady Cards have been up to. Well, on Selection Monday, the team, coaches, and staff all gathered in our team lounge to watch the selection show. We were beyond excited to find out that we got a seven seed in the Spokane Region. Our first opponent: 10th seeded Vanderbilt in Cincinnati. Ever since we were projected to play Vandy, I was hoping we would get them. I played there my freshman year before returning back home to The Ville. I can't wait to see and play against some of my old teammates, especially since my friends and family are making the drive up to watch us!
After a good practice on Friday, we made our way to Cincinnati. We had police cars escort us to Coach Walz's house to pick up his kids, Jacob and Kaeley. I could get used to riding behind cops and never having to stop at lights! When we got to his neighborhood, we drove past a bunch of kids, some excited to see us. A few cars stopped and took pictures of our bus with the Cardinal bird on it. One girl brought out her pompoms to cheer us on. The ride wouldn't have been complete if we didn't see a few UK fans in training, kids who gave us the thumbs down and stuck their tongues out. After we picked up Kaeley and Jacob, we were back on the road again.
Today was another eventful day. We had a good Teena (our strength trainer)-approved breakfast before heading to practice at the Cintas Center where we play this weekend. Afterwards, we headed to NKU's gym to go over the last bit of scout. We are definitely mentally prepared for this game. The best part of the day, though, was dinner. Today was Sheronne's birthday so we couldn't wait to celebrate. I ordered the salmon; good choice on my part as it was delicious. The big surprise of the night was dessert. We are always trying to eat healthy, so letting loose for one night was awesome. We got little glasses of tiramisu and chocolate mousse. Yum! When the waiter brought out Sheronne's glass, it had a lit candle in it. We all sang Happy Birthday to her and took pictures. After a long day, we were ready to get back to the hotel and call it a night. We have a 12 o'clock date with Vanderbilt tomorrow. Let's go Cards!
