
Track and Field Completes Indoor Season at NCAA Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - On the final day of competition at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in College Station, Texas, at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium, University of Louisville's D'Ana McCarty registered a ninth-place finish in the shot put on Saturday evening.
McCarty competed in the first flight and registered a career-best mark of 16.70m/54-9.25 to advance through the preliminaries. Khadija Abdullah, who also competed in the shot put, threw in the second flight. The best of her three throws was 15.69m/51-5.75, which was not enough to reach the finals.
In the finals, McCarty's best throw reached 16.29m/53-5.5, placing her ninth to earn second team U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-America honors. It is her second All-America honor of the championships after finishing third in the weight throw on the first day of competition.
The Cardinals concluded the indoor season, with the women's team earning its first BIG EAST title. At the league championships, five individuals won titles in their respective events. McCarty came away with her third-straight weight throw title, Abdullah won the shot put competition, Charachesicia Lockhart captured the women's long jump title, Wesley Smith won the men's long jump, and Neil Angermeier grabbed the high jump crown.
Louisville will be idle for two weeks before returning to action on March 24 at the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Competition will take place at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium.
