LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Howard Shepard, III, and Luke Lovelace led the University of Louisville men's and women's track and field teams on the final day of the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., late Saturday evening at the Loftus Sports Center.
Shepard took fourth in the seeded 800m run, with a time of 1:51.64. He finished less than a second later than his career-best mark, which he set at the Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 15.
In the 3,000m, Luke Lovelace took fourth after completing the race in 8:26.23. He was two seconds shy of registering a BIG EAST qualifying mark in the event. Matt Bruce, who was making his season debut, finished in eighth place, while Gordon Dooley placed 13th.
The only female competing for the Cardinals on the second day of competition was Madie Davidson. A freshman, she competed in the 3,000m last week, but improved her time in the event, finishing the race 19th in 10:14.85.
Louisville returns to action on Friday, Feb. 11, at the prestigious Tyson Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas, in Fayetteville, Ark. The two-day event will be held at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
