Richardson Leads Track and Field at Tyson Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Saravia Richardson led University of Louisville men's and women's track and field teams at the Tyson Invitational, where the Cardinals had athletes competing at three different locations - the Tyson Invitational, the Akron Invitational and UW Husky Classic - late Friday evening.
Richardson ran in the 60m preliminaries to start the day, and she placed second in her heat, with a time of 7.42. The senior advanced to the semifinals, where she placed 16th, qualifying her for the consolation race.
Other athletes competing at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., included Margret Harris and Charachesicia Lockhart, who competed in the long jump and the long jump invitational, respectively. Lockhart had a 12th-place finish after leaping 6.00m/19-8.25.
On the men's side, Wesley Smith posted a strong mark in the long jump invitational of 7.61m/24-11.75. He took ninth, finishing ahead of Florida's Christian Taylor, a 2009 All-American in the long jump.
Additional Cardinals in action on Friday were Gabrielle Jackson, who competed in the pentathlon at the Akron Invitational in Akron, Ohio, and Matt Hughes, who ran the 5,000m at the UW Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash.
Competing in the event for the first time in her collegiate career, Jackson finished 11th in the gold division. She registered top-10 finishes in two events: the 60m hurdles and the high jump.
Hughes, meanwhile, had a BIG EAST Indoor Championships qualifying mark in the 5,000m, as he completed the race in 14:23.72. It was the only event Hughes was competing in at the meet.
The Cardinals continue action at the Tyson Invitational and Akron Invitational. Louisville gets underway in Fayetteville at 11 a.m., with the field events, while competition in Akron begins at 11:45 a.m.
