
Women's Basketball Hosts Xavier in Home Opener on Sunday

The No. 9 Louisville women's basketball team will host Xavier in the home opener on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the KFC Yum! Center. The game is a Red Out and all fans are encouraged to wear red to the game.
The Cardinals are 2-1 on the season, coming off a 77-53 win at Eastern Kentucky on Thursday evening. The Cardinals are led in scoring by sophomore Cierra Warren with 15.0 points per game. Bria Smith is second on the team in scoring with 13.0 points per game, Shoni Schimmel is third with 12.0 points per game and Becky Burke rounds out the top scorers with 11.3 points per game. Freshman Sara Hammond leads the team on the boards with 7.3 rebounds per game.
Xavier enters the game with an overall record of 1-1. The Musketeers opened the 2011-12 season with a win against Eastern Kentucky, 66-61, at home on Nov. 12 and a 71-65 loss at Mississippi State on Nov. 14. The Musketeers are led by senior guard Tyeasha Moss with 18.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg, and 4.0 apg. Moss, the only returning starter from last year's squad, is the only player in the A-10 that has played all 80 minutes this season. XU has two other players averaging double-figures scoring in junior Jessica Pachko (12. ppg.) and sophomore Lynette Holmes (11.5 ppg.).
Louisville leads the all-time series between the two squads, 7-3, and the Cardinals have won six of the last seven meetings. In the last meeting, Louisville defeated Xavier 85-75 in the NCAA Tournament Second Round game, advancing to the Sweet 16.
