
Women's Basketball Travels To Eastern Kentucky on Thursday

The No. 9 Louisville women's basketball team will play its third game in five days at Eastern Kentucky on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in McBrayer Arena. The Cards will play its third straight road game before the home opener on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2:00 p.m.
The Cardinals are 1-1 on the season, defeating Missouri State and falling to No. 6 Texas A&M on Tuesday afternoon. Newcomers Bria Smith and Cierra Warren lead the Cardinals in scoring. Smith and Warren are averaging 15 points per game and have scored double figures in each of the Cards' two games. Senior Becky Burke ranks third on the team in scoring with 11.0 points per game. Freshman Sara Hammond leads the team on the boards with 7.5 rebounds per game.
EKU opened the season on Saturday with a 66-61 loss at Xavier. They were led by freshman Carla Booth with 15 points. The Lady Colonels were picked to finish 10th in the new 11-team Ohio Valley Conference in a poll of league coaches and sports information contacts. Junior Alex Jones was chosen to the 11-member Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference team. Jones earned second team All-OVC honors after each of her first two seasons with the Lady Colonels.
Louisville leads the series 17-8 against Eastern Kentucky. The two teams have not met since the 2005-06 season. The Cardinals own a 4-5 record against the Lady Colonels on the road. Louisville has won the last three meetings against EKU.
