
Women's Basketball Hosts No. 17 St. John's

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's basketball team will face No. 17 St. John's on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the KFC Yum! Center in their BIG EAST home opener. The Cardinals are 4-1 all-time in BIG EAST home openers.
Louisville enters the game with an overall record of 10-5 and a 1-0 record in the BIG EAST. The Cardinals are coming off their second straight win, defeating UT Martin 92-67 last Tuesday. Freshman Shoni Schimmel leads the team in scoring and assists averaging 16.8 points and 5.6 assists per game. Schimmel is coming off her first career double-double against UT-Martin with 24 points and a career-high 12 assists. Junior Monique Reid rounds out the double figure scores averaging 16.1 points per game while senior Keshia Hines leads the team in rebounding with 6.5 per game.
St. John's enters the game with an overall record of 12-2 and a conference record of 1-0. The Red Storm are coming off their second loss of the season, falling 66-60 to Maryland. The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak. Sophomore Shenneika Smith leads three St. John's players in double figure scoring with 14.2 points per game, while junior Da'Shena Stevens averages 12.7 points and leads the team in rebounding with 7.3 per game. Sophomore Eugeneia McPherson rounds out the top scorers with 11.0 points per game.
Louisville leads the all-time series against St. John's 5-2. In the last meeting, the Cardinals fell 91-56 to St. John's in Queens. The Cardinals have won four of the last five against the Red Storm.
