
Track and Field Teams Head North to Gladstein Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - With two meets under their belts, the University of Louisville men's and women's track and field teams are hoping to build on their performances at the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. The two-day event at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse, which is hosted by Indiana University, begins on Friday, Jan. 21, and continues on Saturday.
The Cardinals open the day with the field events at 3:30 p.m., with the track events starting at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, action picks up at 11 a.m., with the track events, and the field events will start an hour later at noon. Live results can be found on . The meet features more than 20 teams and over 800 athletes.
Louisville competed last week at the Kentucky Track and Field Invitational, with D'Ana McCarty leading the way. She collected her ninth-straight victory on the first day of competition in the indoor weight throw, with a toss of 21.11m/69-3.25. Charachesicia Lockhart (triple jump) and Neil Angermeier (high jump) also had strong performances that day, as each took third in their respective events.
On the second day of the meet, six athletes set career-best marks. Weston Banks registered a personal-best 17.72m/58-1.75 in the shot put for a second-place finish, while Howard Shepard, III, posted an impressive time in the 800m, completing the race in 1:51.48 to place No. 2 in the event; he fell just three seconds short of posting an NCAA automatic qualifying mark. Lockhart earned her second first-place finish of the meet, taking the top spot in the long jump with a solid mark of 6.22m/20-5. Meanwhile, in the throws events, Khadija Abdullah carried the momentum from the first shot put competition of the season by taking first with a toss of 16.09m/52-9.5.
