Postgame Notes
- Today's attendance at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium of 55,327 is the largest in program history. Previous high was 43,217 vs. WVU in 2006.
- Mark Wetterer and Brandon Heath were named the game captains for the Cardinals.
- The first play of the Charlie Strong era was a a six-yard run by Bilal Powell.
- The first complete pass of the season came from Adam Froman to Andrell Smith for a four-yard gain.
- Freshmen Marcus Smith (earned the start at OLB), B.J. Butler, Jarrett Davis, Brandon Dunn and Preston Brown all played in Saturday's contest. Josh Bellamy, Andrell Smith and Tim High made their first start in Cardinal uniforms.
- Terence Simien with first tackle for a loss (three yards) under Charlie Strong era. It was also the first of his career.
- Victor Anderson's kickoff return in the first quarter went 67 yards. It marked the longest return of Anderson's career. The kickoff return is the longest by a Cardinal since Trent Guy returned a kickoff 95 yards on Oct. 10, 2008 against Memphis.
- Chris Philpott's first field goal of the game was a 44-yarder. It tied for longest of his career. The field goal marked the first points under the Charlie Strong era. Four plays, six yards, 1:00 used. He now has made eight-straight field goals.
- The first fourth-down conversion under the Charlie Strong era came on a Victor Anderson two-yard rush in the second quarter, setting up a Chris Philpott 32-yard field goal.
- Bilal Powell with an 80-yard touchdown rush - the longest of his career. The previous high was a 52-yarder against Connecticut in 2008. It marked the longest run for a U of L player since Victor Anderson had an 88-yd run vs. Middle Tennessee State in 2008.
- Powell finished the game with 153 yards on 16 carries. The last time Powell rushed for more than 100 yards was against Connecticut on Sept. 26, 2008. He went for 112 yards on 11 rushes.
- The last time the Cardinals had a 100+ yard rusher in the season opener was against Kentucky on Sept. 3, 2006. Michael Bush totaled 128 yards on 17 carries.
- Adam Froman connected with eight different receivers over the course of the game.
- UK's Derrick Locke was honored with the Howard Schnellenberger MVP Award. The award is voted upon by working press and goes to a member of the winning team. Locked finished the contest with 104 yards on 23 carries, with two touchdowns.
