McCarty Named BIG EAST Female Field Athlete of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville junior D'Ana McCarty won the first BIG EAST Female Field Athlete of the Week award of the season after competing last weekend at the LSU Relays.
McCarty, an Indianapolis, Ind. native, excelled in two events at the LSU relays in Baton Rouge on March 27-28 winning the shot put and finishing third in the discus.
The 2010 NCAA indoor weight throw champion notched the two best distances among BIG EAST throwers in the shot put and the discus throw. Her mark of 51-01.75 (15.59 m) in the shot put ranks 11th among NCAA competitors, while her mark of 162-09 (49.62m) in the discus stands at 18th.
The Cardinals will travel next to West Lafayette, Ind. for the Mike Poehlein Invitational, hosted by Purdue University, on Friday-Saturday, April 2-3.
