Shoni Schimmel Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

Louisville, Ky, - Freshman guard Shoni Schimmel was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after leading the Cardinals to a 3-0 record last week. She led the Cardinals to wins over IPFW, Mississippi Valley State and No. 8/9 Kentucky.
The 5-10 guard led the Cardinals in scoring with 18.7 points per game last week. She finished the week dishing out 6.7 assists while shooting 56.8 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from behind the arc. Schimmel scored a career-high 26 points to help the Cardinals upset No. 8/9 Kentucky, finishing 6-of-9 from behind the arc, dishing out six assists and collecting three steals.
In the win over Mississippi Valley State, she had 15 points, while hitting 6-of-10 from behind the arc. She also dished out seven assists and collected three steals. Schimmel also finished with 15 points and seven assists against IPFW.
