
Women's Basketball Set to Play Dayton

The Louisville women's basketball team will play host to Dayton on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 5:00 p.m. at the KFC Yum! Center.
Louisville (6-3) is coming off Sunday's 78-52 win over No. 8/9 Kentucky and is in the midst of a three-game win streak. Freshman guard Shoni Schimmel led the Cards with 26 points and junior guard Becky Burke added 21 as Louisville took down its in-state rival in front of 22,152 people at the KFC Yum! Center. In that game, Shimmel and Burke combined for 12 three-pointers, the most for a Louisville team since 2007. Defensively, the Cards held the previously undefeated Wildcats to 28-percent shooting while limiting them to their lowest point total in nearly a year.
Junior forward Monique Reid leads the Cardinals in scoring with 15.2 points per game. Current BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, Schimmel, is second on the team in scoring with 14.4 points per game. Schimmel also leads the team with 5.6 assists per game.
Dayton (5-3) brings a three-game win streak of its own into the weekend. The Flyers are coming off of a 102-69 victory over Toledo on Sunday. Junior Justine Raterman leads Dayton with 17.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Senior Kristin Daugherty is second on the team in scoring with 14.9 points per game. Rounding out the Flyer's top scorers is junior Patrice Lalor with 9.6 points per game - she also leads the team with 3.5 assists per game.
Louisville holds a 7-5 advantage in the series. The teams last met on Nov. 15, 2009 as the Cardinals pulled out a 65-63 road win behind Monique Reid's 18 points and 14 rebounds. Kendel Ross led the Flyers with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Saturday's game will be broadcast on WKRD (790 AM)with Jim Kelch calling the action and Paul Sanderford with color commentary.
