Head Coach Jeff Walz
(On what he learned about the team tonight) "I'm pleased with the way we are competing. I'm really excited about that. It's more of the fact that we are competing possession by possession, were not so much concerned about the score. In order to be a great team, to get to that point, you have to learn to come out here and not worry about the score. We play so we can learn to improve every single day. That is really what I have learned so far."
(On the team's goals for the game) "One of our goals was to get over 35 deflections, which I have not seen the final stat on that yet but I think we accomplished that. The other one was to force them into more than 25 turnovers, which we got 25 turnovers. And the other was to have less than 11 offensive boards, we gave 11, which is not less than 11 so we will run for that one. I think that was it for our goals."
(On being pleased with the team's performance) "Of course I am pleased. I think that the crowd can definitely see that we're more talented this year, we have more players and there is more depth. I'm just really excited about having that opportunity. We'll take tomorrow off, come back and practice on Sunday and Monday, and then we will travel after practice on Monday to play a very talented Xavier team on Tuesday.
(On seeing a more consistent effort from Keshia (Hines) "We are really excited. I kept Keshia out there more, trying to give her some game experience, trying to get her in game shape. I thought she did a very nice job. She really stepped up and did a great job shooting free throws tonight. If she can continue to make those improvements, she'll really be a factor for us."
(On playing Xavier and Old Dominion in the upcoming week) "We have a very big week. We are at Xavier, and at Old Dominion which is a very good team. They knocked off Georgia Tech last week, and we have a battle on our hands these next two road games."
(On Louisville's defense only allowing two points in the first four minutes of each game) "Well we are coming out and I think teams are having a hard time figuring out what we are playing because we are not really sure either. We match up in man sometimes, we are in zone other times, but our players are doing a very nice job of communicating throughout which is causing teams some problems. Hopefully we can make it five and six straight games. We will see how that plays out on Tuesday."
Senior Center Keshia Hines
(On earning a double-double) "I just try to work hard every day, be consistent and be a senior."
(On learning from games like these) "Basically we just have to think about ourselves and know what we have to do to win. If it's not for this game, then it's for the next game when we play Xavier. They're big so we're going to have to work on boxing out, moving the ball, cut out turnovers and other stuff like that."
(On what the team needs to do to be successful against Xavier) "Rebounding basically, boxing out and getting bodies on bodies. Finding shooters, they have a big time shooter there so we have to find her in transition. Basically coach said rebound."
Sophomore Guard Tia Gibbs
(On what they learned from a game like this) "I think we're getting better. We tried a lot of rebounding instead of just jumping from the ball and go to the person. We worked well on that."
(On gaining momentum from the Tennessee game) "We gained a lot of confidence. I don't want to say we doubted ourselves, but we didn't really know the potential we had. Everyone said we had a top five recruiting class and we had a lot of potential. But I think that night proved to us how much potential we really had and how we could work really hard and get to that level."
