
Women's Basketball defeats Ohio 84-47

Athens, Ohio - The University of Louisville women's basketball team defeated Ohio 84-47 on Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center. Four Cardinals scored in double figures with junior Becky Burke leading the way with 14 points. Monique Reid and Shoni Schimmel added 13 points while Keshia Hines scored 12. Freshman Antonita Slaughter led the Cardinals on the boards with eight rebounds and Schimmel dished out seven assists with only one turnover. Tenishia Benson led the Bobcats with 16 points.
Louisville started the game with a 7-0 run capped by a three-pointer from Schimmel. Ohio cut the lead to two after a layup by Benson at the 15:21 mark. The Cardinals then went on an impressive 21-0 run to take a 32-9 lead with 6:41 remaining in the half. Louisville finished the half with a 44-20 lead.
Louisville extended the lead to 28 (52-24) to start the second half. The Bobcats then went on a 10-3 run to cut the lead to 21 at the 14:36 mark. The Cardinals responded with a 21-2 run which was capped by back-to-back treys from Burke to take a 75-37 lead with 5:30 remaining. Louisville controlled the rest of the game and the Bobcats couldn't get any closer.
Louisville finished the game shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 52.9 percent from behind the arc. The Cardinals held Ohio to just 27.5 percent shooting from the field and 18.2 percent from behind the arc. Louisville held a 46-36 rebounding advantage.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 17 as they host Houston Baptist at the KFC Yum! Center at 7:00 p.m.
