
Women's Tennis Individuals Capture Titles at Hokie Invitational

Blacksburg, Va. - Julia Fellerhoff and the Cardinals posted a terrific weekend with wins in finals action at the Hokie Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech. Fellerhoff won the singles and doubles title with partner Mandy Brown. Sarah Miller also recorded a good showing for the Cards, winning the consolation bracket in both singles and doubles play with partner Rebecca Shine.
Fellerhoff captured the Flight A final by downing Holley Johnson of Virginia Tech 6-4, 6-3 in singles action. With teammate Mandy Brown, the pair notched a victory in the Flight A doubles final by an 8-6 score over the tandem of Sandra Herrera and Giovanna Portioli from Winthrop in early Sunday morning action.
Sarah Miller also finished the weekend on a strong note by winning the Flight D singles consolation bracket, beating Sydney Smith of William & Mary 6-2, 6-1. Miller and partner Rebecca Shine went on to notch a win in the Flight B doubles consolation bracket final with a 9-7 score over the pair of Christina Riley and Angela Sekely of UNC-Wilimington.
Stefanie Villajuan earned a third place victory over Katie Blow of Virginia Tech 6-1, 6-1 in Flight F singles after getting ousted during semifinal action.
The Cardinals continue their fall schedule at the ITA Regional Championships beginning on Oct. 14 in Knoxville.
