
Women's Golf Finishes Fourth in the Las Vegas Collegiate

Boulder Creek, Nev. - The Louisville women's golf team wrapped up the fall season with a fourth place finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate on Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals shot a 302 in the final round and finished tied for fourth with a score of 876. Arkansas won the tournament with a score of 846 while Kent State finished second with a score of 869. Arizona finished third with a scor of 872 while the Cardinals were tied with Washington.
"I was really pleased with the way our young players competed," said head coach Kelly Rothberg. "Today was a tough day with the weather conditions and they really pulled it through. Finishing in the Top five without our top player was a huge accomplishment and it was a great way to finish out the fall season."
Sophomore Anna Karin Ljungstrom had another solid day, shooting a 72 in the final round. Ljungstrom finished tied for sixth with a score of 213, a collegiate low. Emily Tubert of Arkansas took medalist honors with a score of 205.
Senior Laura Anderson shot a 76 in the final round. She finished 13th with a score of 217 for her best finish of the fall season. Anderson had been coming back from an ankle injury during the fall season and will get time to rest it before the spring season begins.
Freshman Tara Lyons continued her impressive play, shooting a 78 in the final round. Lyons finished the tournament tied at 27th with a score of 222. Sophomore Candice Wiley shot a 79 in the final round. Wiley finished tied for 49the with a score of 227.
Maria Castellanos shot a 76 in the final round. She did not plac in the tournament after being disqualified yesterday from signing for the wrong score. Freshman Maike Klein competed as an individual. Klein shot an 84 in the final round to finish 89th.
The Cardinals played without senior Sara-Maude Juneau for the first time in four seasons. Juneau is preparing to play in a futures tour and did not make the trip. Louisville will begin the spring season on Feb. 14 at the northrop Grumman Regional Tournament in Palos Verdes, Calif.
