This past month has been a great month for all of us! We had two tournaments, the Hokie Invitational and Regionals. The Hokie Invitational went really well. I love how the team did a great job of cheering on teammates. I had one long three set match against one of my opponents and I was the last one on the court that day so the whole team was watching. I was on the outdoor courts and there were no lights and the sun was already going down. I remember I had one point that was extremely long and I ended up winning it by barely getting to a drop shot. All the sudden I hear Amelia yell from the stands, "Yeah Becca that's why we run!" So of course I was all fired up for the next point which was another extremely long point. The last shot that my opponent hit in this point was a short high ball, and instead of doing the same thing as in the last point, I run up to the net, completely whiff the entire overhead, and stumble into the net. Then I hear Gabi from the stands, "It's OK Becca, the sun was in your eyes!" I just turned around and walked to the back fence chill for a second because I couldn't stop laughing. It was pretty dark by then...there was no sun.
We also had an interesting time at Regionals. My roommate for the trip was Amelia, and we finally fell asleep one night and we all got a surprise. I suddenly woke up to the sound of a weird monotone recording of a man's voice and Amelia frantically running around the room. My first reaction was, "Wow this hotel goes all out with its wake up calls," and then I got angry thinking, "Ugh there's no way it's 7 AM already!" So I'm just chilling in bed wondering why Amelia's running back and forth around the room when there's no rush. I finally realize that this weird voice is still talking and that it's the fire alarm telling us to leave immediately. I look at the clock and see that it's 12:30 AM and Amelia looks at me saying, "Becca get out of bed we need to leave now!" I slowly got up trying to find my shoes, a jacket, and the key when Amelia just bolts from the room. So I just followed, running right past the door with the big sign that said "STAIRS" and straight to the elevator, where we proceeded to look for the stairs. We never found them, and we thought it was strange that nobody from our team was around anywhere. Of course we just ended up taking the elevator. We were both just standing in the lobby in pajamas, Amelia with no shoes, completely confused as to why there were not many people in the lobby. After a few minutes we see our entire team come from the complete opposite side of the hotel with a lot of other hotel guests. They had all taken the stairs...and a few people standing next to us were a bit irritated. Apparently they were on the 10th floor. We were told it was a mistake and there was no real fire, but we had to stand in line because we were locked out of our room due to bolting from the room earlier before I could find the key. When we finally got back to the room, the fire alarm decided to go off again. So for a second time, Amelia ran around the room telling me to get out of bed, and I told her I was just going to sleep. Again, the alarm was a mistake.
We ended up having a great tournament at the University of Tennessee despite our late night fire drill. We seemed to be playing really well, and even though it was hard to see some of the courts from the viewing area. We always seem to have a fun time wherever we are, even in the long van rides. Although I don't think Coach thought we sounded very good when we were all singing loudly in the van. I love all the support the team gives each other we're ready for a great last tournament! Deuces!
