
Women's Tennis Competes at ITA Ohio Valley Regional

The University of Louisville tennis team opened play at the 2010 USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships this week at the Knoxville Racquet Club. Seventeen teams will have at least one player competing in the tournament including Butler, Chattanooga, Cincinnati, ETSU, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, IUPUI, Kentucky, Tennessee, MTSU, Memphis, Miami (Ohio), Murray State, Wright State and Xavier.
"It is early in the tournament but it is good to advance as many doubles teams and singles players as we did today," said U of L head coach Mark Beckham. In doubles, Mandy Brown and Julia Fellerhoff, who ousted Shelby Hullett and Vanessa Whyte of IUPUI 8-4 look to extend their winning streak after taking the title at the Hokie Invitational. Next up for them are Whitney Wofford and Jennifer Meredith of host Tennessee.
Sarah Miller and Rebecca Shine paired to defeat Khristina Blajkevitch and Caitlin McGraw of the University of Kentucky 9-7 in opening round action moving their winning streak to four matches. They will face Courtney Collins and Stefanie Mikesz of Memphis in the round of 16.
Kaysara Mandry and Gabrielle Duncan won the qualifier to advance into the main by defeating Amy Nini and Taylor Hines of Wright State 8-2. In the main draw, they moved on by beating Kayla Tuscany and Chelsea Girgash of Wright State 8-2.Their next opponent will be Erica Robertson and Alex Leatu of Vanderbilt.
In the singles qualifier, Sonia Bokhari downed Alex Dachos of Middle Tennessee State 6-2, 7-5 and Riekie Honiball of Miami (Ohio) 6-4, 7-6 to advance to the main singles bracket. She fell 6-3, 6-1 to Sonia Pleiman of Xavier.
Rebecca Shine defeated Karina Kedzo of East Tennessee 6-1, 6-2 with teammate Sarah Miller winning over Alexis Webb of Murray State. Fellerhoff defeated UK's Khristna Blajkevitch 6-1, 6-1 to advance.
Amelia Harris fell to UK's Jessica Stiles 6-0, 6-1 and Memphis' Courtney Collins beat Mandy Brown in a three set battle 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
