PRINCETON, N.J. - - Host, third-ranked Princeton defeated the No. 8 University of Louisville field hockey team 3-0 Sunday afternoon. Princeton improves to 9-2 while the Cards drop to 9-5 on the season.
"Despite the score, the Cards played well and again created opportunities to score," said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. The Tigers scored twice in the first nine minutes of the game to take an early 2-0 lead. Julia Reinprecht connected on a rebound off of goalkeeper Erin Conrad's pads to put the Tigers on the scoreboard at the 6:18 mark. Less than three minutes later, Kathleen Sharkey added an insurance goal.
The teams entered the break with Princeton up 2-0 after outshooting the Cards 9-3 and holding a 3-2 edge in penalty corners.
Michelle Cesan converted a penalty score with less than three minutes remaining for the 3-0 final.
In the game, the Tigers outshot the Cards 22-7 and held an 11-5 advantage in corners. Conrad (9-5) posted 10 saves in the loss. Princeton's Christina Maida had two saves as the Tigers held the Cardinals scoreless for the first time this season.
