LOUISVILLE, Ky.- - University of Louisville track and field junior thrower Chinwe Okoro will travel to Lexington, Ky. to compete in the shot put at the Rod McCravy Invitational on Jan. 30.
The Rod McCravy Invitational will have 15 women's and 14 men's collegiate teams participating. The meet will commence at 6 p.m. ET on Friday and is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, with the shot put competition set for noon.
Okoro will be the lone Cardinal athlete to compete at the meet. The Cardinals will use this week as a training week to prepare for the nationally renowned Meyo Invitational, which will take place next weekend in South Bend, Ind. on Feb. 5-6. The Cardinals already have almost all of the needed BIG EAST qualifying marks for their entire team to compete at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships on Feb. 20-21 in New York.
This will be Okoro's first action of the 2010 season after coming back from injury. Okoro's career best in the indoor shot put is 51-07.25 (15.73m) where she finished third in the event at last year's BIG EAST Indoor Championships.
U of L is coming off an outstanding meet at the Notre Dame Invitational on Jan. 23 where they posted seven NCAA provisional qualifying marks, won nine event titles and set four school records.
