
Roth Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - For the second week in a row, the University of Louisville's Melissa Roth has been named BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week the league office announce on April 13.
Roth, a junior catcher from Long Beach, Calif., went a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate in the Cardinals' doubleheader sweep of Pittsburgh on April 10. Roth, who posted a 2.800 slugging percentage on the day and batted a flawless 1.000 in both wins over the Panthers with three home runs - including a career-first grand slam - six RBI and scored five runs. The junior also drew three walks, building a 1.000 on-base percentage.
In the first game of the twin bill, a 5-2 Louisville win, Roth went 3-for-3 while driving in all five of the Cardinals' runs with a solo home run and grand slam. Louisville took game two 6-5 with Roth going 2-for-2 with another solo homer. Roth's .429 batting average, 11 home runs and 48 runs lead the team. With two more runs, Roth will tie the single-season school record for runs scored (50) set by Audrey Rendon in 2005.
U of L (36-5) currently leads the BIG EAST with a 12-2 league record. The Cards will play host to Middle Tennessee in a single game Tuesday at Ulmer Stadium at 5 p.m., and return to conference play with a doubleheader Friday, April 17 at 4 p.m.
