
Angel McCoughtry Named A Wade Trophy Finalist

Louisville, Ky. - University of Louisville senior Angel McCoughtry has added another honor to her resume. The 6-foot-1 senior forward has been named one of 12 finalists for The State Farm Wade Trophy by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The award honors the nation's best college player.
The winner and the All-America team will be announced April 4 in St. Louis. McCoughtry averaged 23.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game this season en route to becoming a first-team All-BIG EAST selection for the third straight season. She also earned BIG EAST All-Tournament honors. McCoughtry was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year after leading the league in several statistical categories this season. For the third straight season, she led the league in points per game (26.6), rebounds (10.0) and steals (78) becoming the first player in conference history to achieve such a feat. She leads the nation in steals with 4.7 steals per game.
The other finalists are Jayne Appel, Stanford; DeWanna Bonner, Auburn; Tina Charles, Renee Montgomery and Maya Moore, all of Connecticut; Marissa Coleman and Kristi Tolliver, Maryland; Courtney Paris, Oklahoma; Ashley Walker, California; Monica Wright, Virginia; and Jantel Lavender, Ohio State.
McCoughtry has already been named one of four finalists for the Naismith Award, the top award for National Player of the Year. She also was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and was honored as an All-American by ESPN.com and CBSSportsline.com.
