Softball Set to Open 2009 Season in Miami

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball team will open the 2009 season in Feb. 6-8 at Florida International's Combat Classic in Miami.
The Cardinals will be tested early when they face No. 18/21 North Carolina in the first game of the tournament Friday at 4 p.m. They follow with host FIU at 6 p.m. to complete the first day of play.
On Saturday, U of L will play Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 10 a.m. and Jacksonville at 2 p.m. The Cards will close the tournament early Sunday when they face Auburn at 9:30 a.m.
U of L is coming off of a 31-23 campaign in 2008 and earned its fifth consecutive NCAA regional appearance while fielding a starting lineup that consisted of only one senior and three upperclassmen. The Cards return 11 letterwinners and 8 starters from that team, including All-BIG EAST Conference team members Kristen Wadwell, Kassie Stanfill and Colby Wherry.
