
Cards Go Undefeated in Louisville Fall Softball Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball team went undefeated in the Louisville Fall Softball Invitational picking up four wins on the final weekend of fall play.
"I thought our pitchers did a good job this weekend and I was pleased with how they have progressed in the fall season," said head coach Sandy Pearsall. "I saw some great things from our team both offensively and defensively. Overall I was pleased with how our young and inexperienced team played - especially Patrika Barlow who has had a tremendous fall season."
Louisville 2 - Western Kentucky 1
On Saturday, the Cards opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over Western Kentucky. Freshman Kristen Austin doubled and scored on sophomore Chelsea Bemis' base hit in the first to give Louisville a 1-0 lead. WKU tied the game in the third, but junior Kristen Wadwell singled and scored on sophomore Colby Wherry's double in the fourth to give U of L the win. Junior Kristen Wadwell got the win, giving up two hits and striking out four.
Louisville 8 - Anderson 1
In their second game of the day, Louisville used 11 hits, including two doubles and a triple to beat Anderson University 8-1. Senior Patrika Barlow went 3-for 4 at the plate, scored a run and had an RBI to lead the Cards offensively. Freshman Tori Collins giving up one run on five hits.
Louisville 9 - Anderson 0
Sunday, the Cards registered 10 hits behind Rodriguez's perfect game en route to a 9-0, five-inning win over Anderson. Senior Kassie Stanfill was 2 for 2 with two RBI and junior Megan Hornback went 2 for 2 to lead the Cardinal offense.
Louisville 2 - Morehead State 0
The Cardinals closed the tournament with a 2-0 win over Morehead State. Seniors Kristi Cunningham and Kassie Stanfill each had a hit and a run, while Bemis and Barlow each registered a hit and an RBI. Wadwell started the game and got the win, while Collins picked up the save.
The Cardinals will open the 2009 spring season Feb. 6-8 at the Florida International Tournament.
