Louisville, Ky. - Looking to assist at the point guard position, freshman guard Tiera Stephen plans to step up big for Louisville this season. Stephen's preparation for the upcoming year began early this summer in the weight room and on the court, as she quickly experienced the intensity of college basketball.
"The intensity, you have to bring it all the time," explained Stephen. "People ride you, you get it from your teammates and you get it from your coach. But it's fun, it's a whole different level,"
Before joining the Cardinal roster Stephen concluded a noteworthy high school career at Chaminade-Julienne Catholic High School. She was ranked the 6th best player in the state of Ohio by the Ohio Sports Report.
Stephen earned all-state honors her junior and senior seasons and earned all-district honors the last three seasons at Chamidade-Julienne.
Not only will she contribute at point guard, Stephen's defensive energy and willingness to do "whatever it takes" will certainly benefit the Cards.
"Tiera is a natural point guard who understands the game and how to make her teammates better," said head coach Jeff Walz. "Her ability to defend the ball is as good as anyone in the country. With the loss of Patrika Barlow to graduation, we were looking for someone who has the ability to come in and play as a freshman."
The Dayton, Ohio native is currently undecided on her major, but is considering a degree in business or communications.
