
Softball Heads to Indiana

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball team will take a break from BIG EAST Conference play with a single game at Indiana on Wednesday, April 23. Following that game the Cardinals will travel to league-leader South Florida for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 26.
About Louisville: The Cardinals (24-18, 9-5) currently stand tied for fifth in the conference with Pittsburgh. Both teams have 10-6 league records. Still on the schedule are No. 1 South Florida and No. 2 Connecticut. DePaul and Notre Dame are tied for third.
The Cards are led offensively by sophomore catcher Melissa Roth who is hitting .373 with 35 runs, 18 doubles and six stolen bases. Freshman 3B Chelsea Bemis follows with a .317 average, and a team-leading five home runs and 43 RBI. Senior 1B Sarah Totten rounds out the over .300 hitters with a .311 average, 25 runs and 23 RBI.
Up Last: The University of Louisville softball team split with No. 20/25 DePaul in a BIG EAST doubleheader Sunday at Ulmer Stadium. The Cards snapped a three-game conference losing streak with a 2-0 win in game one and the Blue Demons won the second 1-0. T

Last Meeting: 3/21/08 - Louisville defeated host Indiana 9-3 in the IU Softball Classic. In that game, Chelsea Bemis hit a three-run homer in the midst of an eight-run sixth inning. Reliever Kassie Stanfill got the win while striking out nine in five innings. IU's Jennifer Olson took the loss.
Scouting the Hoosiers: Indiana enters the game with a 13-31 overall record and are 3-10 against a very challenging Big Ten schedule. The Hoosiers are led offensively by Jenni Huddleston, who is hitting .307. Emily Bergeson follows with a .297 average, five home runs and 20 runs scored. Monica Wright has shouldered most of the pitching duties and carries a 3.81 ERA with 88 strikeouts in 154.1 innings.
