Women's Tennis Falls to Marshall

The No. 39 ranked University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 5-2 to No. 56 ranked Marshall in the Cardinals' final regular season match of the season Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

"We ran into a hot Marshall team today," said U of L first year head coach Mark Beckham. "They gave us very few opportunities and we weren't able to capitalize on the ones we got due to the high level of Marshall's play."

The Cardinals, 14-6, dropped the doubles point when they fell at No. 1 and No. 3. Lauren Imre and U of L's lone senior Robyn White paired to beat Isabell Raich and Jeanne Schwartz 8-6 at No. 2.

The Cardinals dug in to battle the Herd in singles with Lauren Imre striking first with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jeanne Schwartz at No. 2. Bianca Gorbea scored U of L's other point with a drawn out 7-6, 3-6, 10-6 three-set battle with Karolina Soor at No. 3. Although the match was already clinched, senior Robyn White gave Jessica Keener all she could handle in a marathon 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 loss.

"I want to compliment Robyn White, our lone senior, on a great career," said Beckham. "I wish I could have coached her more than one year but the time I did have with her taught me what a pleasure she is to coach."

The Cardinals await their pairing matchup for next week's BIG EAST Tournament in Tampa beginning April 17.

"This match isn't going to set us back too much, we have to retain all the positivesof season and use that to carry us into the BIG EAST Conference Tournament next week," said Beckham.
