
Softball Travels to Kentucky Wednesday

The University of Louisville softball team will travel to Lexington, Ky., for a single game matchup against in-state rival Kentucky on Wednesday, March 5 at 5 p.m.
The Cardinals (7-8) are batting .257 as a team and are led at the plate by sophomore catcher Melissa Roth who is hitting .458 with nine doubles, 12 runs, four stolen bases and a .536 on-base percentage. Freshman 3B Chelsea Bemis follows with a .391 average and a team-leading 15 RBI. Junior OF/RHP Kassie Stanfill rounds out the over .300 hitters with a .316 average.
Kristen Wadwell (3-5) leads in the circle with a 2.51 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 53.0 innings. Stanfill follows closely wiht a 2.50 ERA and 37 Ks in 36.1 innings. Both Wadwell and Stanfill are holding opponents to a .215 batting average.

Series Record: UK leads 12-7
Last Meeting: The teams met twice in 2007 with Kentucky winning the first meeting 6-3 on March 7 and the Cards prevailing 7-6 in a nine-inning, storm-delayed affair on April 11 at Ulmer Stadium.
Scouting Kentucky: The Wildcats (9-7) are winners of seven straight games under new head coach Rachel Lawson. Most recently, the Cats defeated Indiana 10-5 on March 2.
UK is batting an impressive .291 as a team. Molly Johnson leads the way with a .412 average, two home runs, six double and 13 RBI. Natalie Smith follows with a .377 average and a team-leading 13 runs. Samantha DeMartine is hitting .320 with nine RBI. Megan Yocke rounds out the over.300 hitters with a .306 average, 11 runs and leads the team with six stolen bases.
Amber Matousek (4-4) has shouldered the bulk of the pitching duties and carries a 3.91 ERA with 44 strikeouts in 57.1 innings of work. Megan Jolley (2-2) has a 2.86 ERA and is holding opponents to a .248 batting average.
Following the Kentucky game, the Cardinals will return to Ulmer Stadium to host the Red and Black Tournament March 7-9. Other teams in the field include: Bradley, IUPUI and Virginia.
