BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The nationally ranked University of Louisville rowing team overcame challenging rowing conditions and rough waters to win four of six races over the host Indiana Hoosiers Saturday on Lake Lemon in Bloomington, Ind.
As a result of the rough waters, only the Varsity 8+ and 2nd Varsity 8+ competed on the full 2000-meter course, with the Varsity 4+ and Novice 8+ races being limited to a pair of three and a half minute pieces, with only finishing places being recorded.
In the Varsity 8+ race, Louisville held a small early lead, but as the boats made it to the rough water on the course, the Cardinals were able to keep it together to get the win, finishing in 6:36.9 while IU posted a time of 6:47.7.
In the 2nd Varsity 8+ race, the Hoosiers held a one boat length lead halfway through the course only to see Louisville rally to win by less than three seconds. Louisville's final time was 6:53.0 and Indiana crossed the line in 6:55.7.
The Cards won both of the three and a half minute Novice 8+ pieces, while the Hoosiers won the two Varsity 4+ pieces.
Up next, the Cards will face Tennessee on Saturday, March 29 in Knoxville, Tenn.
