
Cards Complete Day One at NCAA Indoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Juniors Rudon Bastian and Jere' Summers led the University of Louisville track and field team during Friday's opening day of competition at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championship at the University of Arkansas' Randal Tyson Track Center.
Bastian, a native of Nassau, Bahamas, narrowly missed on advancing to the finals of the men's long jump with a 10th-place leap of 24 feet, 11.75 inches on his first attempt of the day. Bastian, who was in eighth position after his round one jump, dropped to the ninth and final qualifying position after round two and was in 10th entering his final attempt of the day after Texas A&M's Julian Reid passed the Cardinal jumper on his final attempt. Bastian was unable to improve on his opening mark on his final attempt of the day.
Summers, a native of Oakland, Calif., and a transfer from Cal State Northridge, finished 13th overall in the women's weight throw with a mark of 63-08.75 in her first career appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships. After earning her 13th-place mark on her first attempt of the day, Summers fouled on her final two attempts.
The final day of competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships will begin Saturday at 4:30 p.m. CT with Jere' Summers and senior captain ZeNai Savage in the women's shot put and will continue for the Cards at 6:30 p.m. CT with junior Seidre Forde in the women's triple jump.
