
Softball Set for Marshall Doubleheader

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball team will play host to Marshall in a doubleheader Wednesday, March 12 at 2 p.m.
About Louisville: Louisville is back in action after sitting idle for a week after winter storms dumped nearly a foot of snow, forcing the cancellation of the Red & Black Tournament. The Cardinals (8-8) are coming off of a 6-1 win over in-state rival Kentucky Wednesday. U of L is led offensively by sophomore catcher Melissa Roth, who is hitting .462 with a team-leading 10 doubles, 13 runs and four stolen bases. Freshman 3B Chelsea Bemis follows with a .380 average and leads the team with 16 RBI. Junior OF/RHP Kassie Stanfill rounds out the over-.300 hitters with a .317 average, four runs and six RBI.
Sophomore RHP Kristen Wadwell (4-5) carries a team-best 2.33 ERA with 44 strikeouts in 60.0 innings and is limiting opponents to a .205 average. Stanfill (2-2) follows with a 2.50 ERA and 37 Ks in 36.1 IP. She is also holding opponents to a .215 batting average.

Scouting the Thundering Herd: Marshall enters Wednesday's doubleheader with a 10-10 overall record. The Thundering Herd is coming off of a two-game sweep of Conference USA opponent Memphis, defeating the Tigers 13-2 and 8-3.
Marshall is batting a hefty .319 as a team with six players hitting over .300 on the season. Rachel Folden leads the way offensively with a .467 average, 13 doubles and 24 runs scored. Rachael Sofie follows with a .397 average. Deanna Tourville has a team-leading five home runs and 20 RBI.
Caitlyn Jackson (4-6) has carried the majority of the pitching duties and carries a 4.48 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 61 IP. Autumn Mitchell (4-3) has posted a 2.86 ERA with 32 Ks in 36.2 innings of work.

No. 10/11 Michigan, Minnesota and Miami (Ohio) will visit Ulmer Stadium for the Louisville Tournament March 14-16.
