Louisville, Ky. - Senior Angel McCoughtry was named a preseason Associated Press All-American, becoming the first Cardinal player to earn that honor. Joining McCoughtry on the team announced Tuesday were Connecticut's Maya Moore, Oklahoma's Courtney Paris, Maryland's Kristi Toliver, and Oklahoma State's Andrea Riley.
"I'm humbled by this honor," McCoughtry said. "It was a dream of mine to bring national recognition to Louisville women's basketball. The team is the most important thing to me and if I can help us reach new heights this season that would be great."
Paris was a unanimous selection with 45 votes and Moore earned 44 votes. McCoughtry had 39 votes, Toliver 38, and Riley 19. Paris and Moore were first-team All-Americans last season. McCoughtry, Toliver, and Riley earned second-team honors.
McCoughtry was named a WBCA All-American and an Associated Press All-America Second Team selection. For the second straight year in league play, she led the conference in scoring (23.3 ppg) and rebounding (9.5 rpg) and is a two-time All-BIG EAST First Team member.
