Louisville, Ky. - Time to lace up the shoes and get ready to go!!
Sorry for taking so long to post my second blog but things have been a little crazy here in "The `Ville". We had our first game of the year on Friday at Tennessee Tech, where we won 82-49. We looked a little sloppy in the first half but played much better in the second. I am pleased with the progress this team has made from day-to-day and week-to-week. With five new faces, it will always take a little time to get everyone on the same page.
I would like to give you all an update on Chauntise Wright. As most of you already know, she tore her ACL in practice on Oct. 24. Tise, as we all call her, was just doing a half court defensive drill when she planted and tore the ACL in her right knee. Tise had been hit by a car in July while crossing a cross walk. She tore the medial collateral ligament in one knee and her lateral collateral ligament in the other from that accident. Our team doctor says the ACL was damaged in the accident so we tried to strengthen all of her muscles around the knee to prevent the tear, but unfortunately we were not successful. Tise had surgery on Nov. 6th and everything went well. She has been working hard with her rehab and is excited to make a full recovery. I will be sure to keep everyone posted on how her rehab progresses.
Tonight is a special night as we will play Austin Peay in our first home game of the year. Not only is it the only time this month our fans will have the chance to see us play at home, but we will honor Angel McCoughtry as the all-time leading scorer here at Louisville. She passed Nell Knox on Friday night after scoring her 22nd point. Nell held the record for 15 years with 1,899 career points. We will do a presentation at half time of the game where Nell will present Angel with the game ball from Friday night. We are looking forward to an exciting evening.
I hope everyone is enjoying the start of the college basketball season and I look forward to seeing many of you at our games this season. We will continue to work hard everyday with the understanding that it doesn't matter where you start the year but where you finish! This is a very hungry team that I know will work hard to make all of our fans proud of Louisville Women's Basketball.
Until next time...
Be Good, Be Safe and Be Yourself!!
GO CARDS!!!
