Louisville, Ky. - Louisville senior center Chauntise Wright will miss the 2008-09 season after tearing her ACL in practice over the weekend. Wright went down in practice on Friday and an MRI confirmed she sustained an ACL tear in her right knee.
"This is a tough blow for Chauntise" said head coach Jeff Walz. "She has been working extremely hard to get into shape and prepare for a great senior season. Everyone will be behind her as she undergoes surgery within the next two weeks. This will be an opportunity for some of our younger players to step up and fill the void left by Chauntise."
Wright started all 36 games for the Cardinals last season. She finished the year ranked third on the team in scoring and rebounding with 11.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. She scored double figures in all three of Louisville's NCAA Tournament games.
Wright will undergo surgery in the next few weeks after the swelling has gone down. She is expected to return for the 2009-10 season.
"Chauntise will work hard to rehab her knee to prepare her for a return to the 2009-10 season," said Walz.
