
Eleventh-Ranked Field Hockey Defeats Dartmouth 3-1

HANOVER, N.H. - - The 11th-ranked Louisville Cardinals scored three second-half goals to defeat host Dartmouth 3-1 afternoon at Chase Field.
After scoreless first half in which Louisville outshot Dartmouth 10-4, the Cards struck first, five minutes into the second half. Freshman Caitlin Collins fired a shot from outside the circle and junior Kayla May redirected it past Big Green goalkeeper Meagan Vakiener to take a 1-0 lead.
Eight minutes later, the Cardinals took advantage of a penalty corner as senior Lauren Schaefer collected a blocked shot in the center of the circle and found the back of the net to increase the lead to 2-0 and notch the eventual gamewinner.
With 2:14 remaining in the game, sophomore Jenna Ahern tallied an insurance goal as the Cardinals went up 3-0 Sophomore Nicole Youman registered her ninth assist of the season when she dealt a pass from the right side of the circle and Ahern was at the far post for the score.
The Big Green broke the shutout with 1:20 left as Kelly Hood sent a pass to Meghan Everett was able to strike the ball in the air past Louisville goalkeeper junior Heather Bustanoby at the far post to cut the deficit to 3-1.
The Cards held a 17-10 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in penalty corners. Bustanoby posted five stops in the game to improve to 10-5 on the season. Vakiener also had five saves as the Big Green drop fo 3-9.
U of L (10-5, 4-1 BIG EAST) will continue non-conference play next weekend when they play host to Robert Morris on Friday 7 p.m. and Northwestern on Sunday at 1 p.m.
