
Women's Basketball Hands Cincinnati a 79-56 Defeat

Cincinnati, Ohio - The University of Louisville women's basketball team defeated Cincinnati 79-56 on Wednesday evening in Fifth Third Arena. Angel McCoughtry led all scorers with her season with 26 points and 11 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season. Chauntise Wright finished with 17 points and Candyce Bingham added 10 points. Kahla Roudebush led the Bearcats with 19 points.
Cincinnati started the second half with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 34-47 in the opening minutes. Louisville then went on a 13-2 run to go ahead 60-36 with 13:12 left to play. Keshia Hines hit two free throws with just over two minutes remaining to give the Cards their biggest lead of the game at 77-47. The Bearcats hit consecutive 3-pointers to cut the lead to 79-52 with a minute remaining but it a little too late.
Louisville finished the game shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 35 percent from behind the arc. Cincinnati finished shooting 38 percent from the field and 32 percent from behind the arc. Louisville outrebounded the Bearcats 44-25.
Cincinnati jumped out to an early 6-1 lead to start the game. Louisville then went on a 6-0 run to pull ahead 7-6. The Bearcats regained the lead on the next possession but the Cardinals went on a 5-0 run to take the lead for good. Louisville then used a 23-2 run to take a 34-15 lead with just over five minutes remaining. McCoughtry hit a shot at the buzzer to give the Cardinals a 47-29 lead at the break.
The Cardinals finished the first half shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 46.2 from behind the arc. The Bearcats shot just 37 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from behind the arc. The Cardinals finished the half with a 22-16 rebound advantage.
Louisville will be back in action as they host South Florida on Saturday, Feb. 2 in Freedom Hall at 7:00 p.m.
